Pedro Joins Chelsea Squad
Pedro Rodriguez may have only completed his move from European holders Barcelona to Premier League champions Chelsea on Thursday, but the Spain star has already met his new teammates after taking part in his first training session with the Blues.
The 28-year-old signed a four-year deal with Chelsea after successfully undergoing a medical with the club this week, and the World Cup winner wasted no time in familiarising himself with his new side after training with the Blues at the club’s training base in Surrey on Thursday afternoon.
In a vine posted onto Chelsea’s official Twitter account, Pedro was seen walking onto the training pitches at Cobham alongside his compatriot Cesc Fabregas, who appeared to be telling the winger all about the facilities.
Pedro was then pictured warming up next to Fabregas and Spain defender Cesar Azpilicueta, with Chelsea’s official website suggesting the former Barcelona star could be in contention to feature in the club’s trip to West Brom on Sunday.
The Blues’ capture of Pedro is seen as a major coup for the club especially as the Spaniard was believed to be close to joining Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Manchester United last week.
It is thought Jose Mourinho personally spoke to Pedro to convince him to sign for Chelsea after the winger decided to leave Barcelona in search of regular first-team football.
Despite winning three Champions League titles and five La Liga crowns at the Camp Nou, Pedro saw his playing time at Barcelona restricted last season as Luis Suarez developed a superb on-pitch understanding with Lionel Messi and Neymar as the Catalan giants secured the treble last term.
Mourinho will now be hoping Pedro can help revive Chelsea’s stuttering start to the new season after the champions opened up the Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Swansea before being beaten 3-0 away to Manchester City on Sunday.
