A D ALQUERIAS 2 MAZARRON FC 0
Mazarron suffered a shock 2-0 defeat away to lowly A D Alquerias. Against a team with the worst defensive record in the league and who had lost their previous four games, Mazarron were second best throughout the game.
Mazarron keeper Antonio had to be on his toes to deal with two long range efforts from Alquerias and, at the other end, Palote’s pass saw Willy shooting over the bar from a good position. The home team took the lead after 22 minutes when a long ball was misjudged by Alfonso and Daniel Luis nipped in to strike the ball past Antonio.
Mazarron struggled to put two passes together against a team who were fighting for every ball and were restricted to two wild shots before half time, one from Jose which ballooned over the bar and another from Palote which he scuffed wide.
Mazarron thought they had equalised eight minutes into the second half when Jose slipped the ball under the Alquerias keeper after a through ball from Hafid but the goal was correctly disallowed for offside.
Mazarron played far too defensively with Rollon sitting in front of the back four, and often had only one Alquerias attacker to look after. This negative attitude and lack of urgency was highlighted when they had seven men behind the ball when they were taking a free kick inside the Alquerias half.
Palote and Jose had dangerous looking crosses cut out by the Alquerias defence and Willy produced some skilful moments without really testing the home keeper but it was Alquerias who nearly increased their lead when Juan Andreo almost turned a left wing cross into his own net. However, Mazarron’s relief was short-lived as the resultant corner from Miguel Angel found its way directly into the net to double the home team’s lead after 78 minutes.
Goalkeeper Antonio made a number of good saves, twice having to come out of his area to clear the danger and, apart from a goalline scramble after a Champi free kick and an excellent run and cross down the left by Hafid, Mazarron were unable to get back into the game.
It was a poor performance by Mazarron and one which they must put behind them quickly before they face a tough encounter at home to Cartagena FC next Sunday, 6th March kick off 5 pm.
