Concerns over security may lead to Real Madrid’s La Liga match at Girona on Sunday being postponed if the Catalan regional government declares independence over the weekend.

While the home team are not overly concerned by possible disturbances around the Estadio Montilivi, reports are emerging local authorities may take the decision upon themselves.

Radio station Onda Cero is reporting of police preparations to postpone the game on security grounds should independence be declared. “Security for this match will be as it always is. We will play as we always do and without thinking about anything else,” said Zinedine Zidane regarding the game as both clubs make clear that there is nothing to fear in spite of these claims.

Barcelona did play a game behind closed doors recently, this could be an option for the police, but the stadium and facilities are of a significant greater standard at the Camp Nou.
