Cuellar who was born in Madrid will join up with Almeria in the Lida Adelante & battle to return to the top flight at the first time of asking, he left the Spanish game back in 2007 to join Rangers where he would become a fan favourite winning both the Scottish League Cup & Scottish Cup plus runner up in the UEFA Cup in the 2007/08 season losing out to Zenit St Petersburg 2-0 at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Cuellar then signed to Aston Villa in August 2008 as the Villians met his release clause of 7.8 million on a four year deal, going on to losing League Cup Final against Manchester United 2-1.
After 94 appearances for Villa his contract was not renewed and he was told to find a new club. Sunderland signed Carlos on a two year deal where he played 34 times and then released.
